The Keycon Read Off

Welcome to the first ever Keycon Read Off! At this con the readings won't just be done by the pros... Brave souls will step up in front friends, family, and complete strangers to share a three to five minute story they have written. Putting it out there to be heard, judged, and rated against everyone else. It can be a scary experience but an important one for any budding author. So come out to share your work or support the brave writers who are.

The Basics:

Authors read a THREE TO FIVE MINUTE story they have written to fit the theme in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.

The Theme:

In honour of the recent World Horror Convention held in Winnipeg where the idea for this panel came from the theme will be Horror. The focus will be on over-all grossness, the most graphic, and the most verbally visceral stories with no topics too taboo (Within the limits of the law). All the while still showing you ability to weave a plot in to all that grossness. So get ready to step up to disgust and entertain.

The Judging:

Participants will be judged on over-all grossness, reading and presentation, and the ability to weave a plot into the grossness. With bonus points awarded by audience who will use whatever criteria they want.

The Rules:

  1. No Props beyond a costume. If you are unsure if something counts as a prop vs. a costume please just see me before hand.
  2. The story must be written, no just stepping up and telling a story off the top of your head.
  3. You will be given a One minute warning and a ten seconds warning. When stop is called you have to stop, no rushing to finish the story at that point.
  4. This programming item is rated PG, if you do not have an adult badge or a parent with you then you will not be allowed participate or attend.
