Hospitality Suites

What is a Hospitality Suite?

Think of the Hospitality Suites as the official room parties for the convention. Typically they will be themed, often along one or more genres of fandom.

Keycon’s Hospitality suites are more than just a couple of suites. It’s the entire 15th floor of the Radisson. The stories from conventions past have helped the floor transcend to legendary status. From hallway sing-a-longs to spooky suites; new friends found and old friends rediscovered.

A Note From Our Coordinator

Hello peoples and welcome to the 15th floor. This year Hospitality is happy to present for your viewing, singing, dining and “various” other pleasures a wide range of Suites. We have a couple of new groups this year and a few of our favourites have returned. A few very important items for you to remember at all times. Please, remember to wear your badges at all times and have your official government photo ID on you if you wish to partake of an “adult” beverage. NO ID means NO SERVICE. All service animals must be registered with the Conventions Registration and proof of this will be required. Service animals are not to be in the area where food is being served in the hospitality suites. Please remember that alcoholic beverages are not to be taken off the 15th floor. The hotel is not just ours and we must be mindful of the laws both City and Provincial. So Come, Sing, Drink, Eat and have fun!!!

Room Descriptions

1500: TGP/2020

Friday and Saturday

The Grease Trap – Mad Max theme

The Grease Trap is a roadside bar that offers a slight reprieve from the
wasteland outside. The owner is a young raider with a love of cooking.
She may miss the thrill of the attack and the rush of the road; but she
revels in the excitement of interesting clientele that stop by. It is
suggested you don’t insult her cooking though, as she is quite good
with a thunderstick.

Stop by to hear some stories from the tellers, fill up on guzzoline or fix
your rig, enjoy a hot meal or cold drink, and escape from the fury of the
road gangs and the outside world, if only for a bit.

On the floor beneath these tables you’ll find several boxes of the Bear’s Beautifully Brilliant Buck-a-Book Bargain Bonanza – okay, call it the loony-bin. Look a little closer and you’ll also find a box of DVDs. All being offered at prices well below what you’ll find at any used bookshop – but that’s what you’ve come to expect from the ol’ Bear, right?

1516: The Dandy Lion Suite

Do you enjoy live and recorded SF/F related music? Do you like to sing along with others? How about quiet conversations in a comfy medieval inn? Do you want or need a source of gluten-free oatmeal, smoothies, soups, and snacks? If “yes” is your answer to any of these then The Dandy Lion is the place for you!

We are a group of friends who love sharing music – listening to it, playing it, singing, harmonizing, teaching it, you name it. “Filk” is the folk/rock music of science fiction, fantasy, and fandom. Our Filk hospitality suite, “The Dandy Lion”, offers live concerts, sing-alongs, jam sessions, and recorded music for you to enjoy. We also offer one-dollar gluten-free food, coffee, tea, snacks, and smoothies throughout the day. Come for some caffeine and eats, stay for some conversation and music – we’d love to see you.

We will be serving all day breakfast – oatmeal with lots of fruit choices as add-ons! This year, we are also offering soup or chili for lunch as supplies last. And don’t forget those snacks and smoothies! Buy a Dandy Lion coffee mug for $5 and have free coffee, tea, or smoothies the rest of the Con! Check out our silent auction too.

So, drop in, relax, enjoy some goodies, catch one of the featured concerts, or join in our nightly camp-fire sing-alongs or afternoon “learn a filk song” or jam sessions. We’d love to meet you!
